August Tea Report: 2022 China Exports & US Imports

Data from the China Tea Marketing Association and the US Census Bureau (GATS) was recently published regarding China exports and US imports of tea for July 2022.

CHINA EXPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Aug total export volume INCREASED 8.4% year on year
• GREEN tea accounted for 82.9% of total export volume
• Average prices DECREASED 9.0% over the previous Aug to $5.76/kg
• Exports of GREEN tea volume INCREASED 8.1% over August 2021
• Exports of BLACK tea volume REMAINED THE SAME over the same time last year

US IMPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Average price for August GLOBAL imports was $3.79/kg, DOWN 16.4% over the previous August
• Average price for August CHINA imports was $4.47/kg, UP 0.1% over August 2021
• 40.8% of all GREEN tea import (volume) was from China, but only 20% of VALUE
• 47.4% of the month's US ORGANIC tea import volume was from China
