October Tea Report: 2022 China Exports & US Imports

Data from the China Tea Marketing Association and the US Census Bureau (GATS) was recently published regarding China exports and US imports of tea for October 2022.

CHINA EXPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Oct total export volume DECREASED 24.6% year on year
• GREEN tea accounted for 84.2% of total export volume
• Average prices DECREASED 6.3% over the previous October to $5.54/kg
• Exports of GREEN tea volume DECREASED 25.8% over October 2021
• Exports of BLACK tea volume DECREASED 9.7% over the same time last year

US IMPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Average price for GLOBAL imports was $4.43/kg, DOWN 8.6% over the previous October
• Average price for CHINA imports was $5.53/kg, UP 16.5% over October 2021
• 42.4% of all GREEN tea import (volume) was from China, but only 27.8% of VALUE
• 48% of the month's US ORGANIC tea import volume was from China
