September Tea Report: 2021 China Exports & US Imports

Data from the China Tea Marketing Association and the US Census Bureau (GATS) was recently published regarding China exports and US imports of tea for September 2021.

CHINA EXPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Jan-Sep total export volume is DOWN 1.8% year on year
• Average prices are UP 31% over the previous September to $7.11/kg
• Exports of GREEN tea volume INCREASED 21.7% over September 2020
• Exports of BLACK tea volume INCREASED 7.7% over same time last year

US IMPORTS

14% of ALL US TEA IMPORTS were from China

61.8% of all ORGANIC US TEA IMPORTS were from China

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Average price for September GLOBAL imports was $4.98/kg
• Average price for September CHINA imports was $5.20/kg
• 36.5% of all GREEN tea import (volume) was from China, but only 20% of VALUE
