September Tea Report: 2022 China Exports & US Imports

Data from the China Tea Marketing Association and the US Census Bureau (GATS) was recently published regarding China exports and US imports of tea for September 2022.

CHINA EXPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Sept total export volume DECREASED 5.5% year on year
• GREEN tea accounted for 81.2% of total export volume
• Average prices DECREASED 19.4% over the previous Sept to $5.73/kg
• Exports of GREEN tea volume DECREASED 9.9% over September 2021
• Exports of BLACK tea volume INCREASED 28.6% over the same time last year

US IMPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Average price for September GLOBAL imports was $3.91/kg, DOWN 21.5% over the previous September
• Average price for September CHINA imports was $5.06/kg, DOWN 2.8% over September 2021
• 41.8% of all GREEN tea import (volume) was from China, but only 25% of VALUE
• 23.6% of the month's US ORGANIC tea import volume was from China
