Tea Craft Inspiration: Mikkeller's Gotcha Matcha

With Mikkeller's reputation for playful experimentation and innovation, it was only a matter of time before green tea matcha made it into a brew. Gotcha Matcha is the handiwork of Mikkeller San Diego for the San Francisco Beer Week 2022. Untappd currently scores it as 3.77 with 26 ratings.

INGREDIENTS

Gotcha Matcha is described as a German style Pilsner with matcha. The few comments shown on Untapped are favorable, saying the beer has a nice matcha flavor without being overpowering. A milder matcha like Firsd Tea's OCG025 Organic Matcha #2 would do the trick when used on the cold side.

WORTH NOTING

One might expect a beer with matcha to have a greener color. If the matcha was infused on the cold side and then passed through a fine enough filtration system, the tea's flavor would go through without any of the leaf powder. Matcha green tea is a powdered leaf, so the green powder, and thereby much of the color, will fall out of suspension.
